The Highlights of Istanbul

It’s been a long time since I wrote my travel journey about Three Beauties of Cappadocia. I have been so busy since I got back from Turkey. Besides, Cappadocia, I could say that Istanbul has been my no.1 favorite city in Turkey, perhaps in Europe. I have been to London and Paris. They are beautiful, so vintage, so classic. However, Istanbul can wrap all of them into one. It is the home of breathtaking architecture, buildings, tasty food, amazing art, and pretty flowers. It’s also a perfect place for street photography.

At the entrance of Hagia Sophia

For you who want to go to Turkey, I give you a few must visit places for sightseeing and shopping for Istanbul’s first timers:

Emirgan Park

It was my first destination when I arrived at Turkey. It is a historical urban parks at the Emirgan neighbourhood in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul, Turkey, on the European coast of the Bosphorus. It is one of the largest public parks in Istanbul. I saw lots of beautiful tulips and sakura trees. I arrived at 7 AM, so it was still quiet and peaceful for photoshoot.

Hagia Sophia / Aya Sofia Mosque

It is built 1500 years ago as an orthodox Catholic church. After Turkey was defeated in Cross War, the church was re-built as a mosque withour removing the relics and pictures of Christian. You can see the picture of Jesus, Gabriel, and Virgin Mary on the 2nd floor of Aya Sofia. Now, it is a museum with a stunning Byzantine and Islamic architecture. The grand dome of Aya Sofia that towers over the sky of Istanbul is as beautiful inside as it is on the outside.

Sultan Ahmed Blue Mosque

Standing beautifully at the opposite of Aya Sofia, the Bluq Mosque was built by The Great Sultan Ahmed. However, the mosque was still in renovation and closed. Too bad 😦 Just seeing from the outside, the cascading domes are amazing. I love taking pictures on the outdoor area.

The Grand Bazaar / Kalpali Çarsi

For you who like to go shopping (like me!), Istanbul Grand Bazaar is a must visit place. Be careful of entrance and exit doors. It’s as overwhelming with hundreds of mazes and passages filled with thousands of vendors selling everything from spices, lamps, carpets, jewelries to lanterns. just like a labyrinth with the same interior and decoration. Try to wander around first before settling in buying something at the first stall. There are many vendors selling the same thing. Besides, the place is also photogenic to be missed.

P.S.: there are also many vendors outside the Grand Bazaar which sell similar things with lower price! The T-shirts and souvenirs are so cheap!

Arasta Bazaar

Arasta Bazaar is located hundreds meter from Aya Sofia. It’s a long tidy street with shops lining on both sides, like the Asiatic Market in Bangkok. Homewares, souvenirs, antiques are sold in Arasta Bazaar, perhaps much better and curated than the Grand Bazaar. It is a pleasant interlude from the bustle of the main tourist attractions with selections of cafes and restaurant inside. Since i got there at 6 PM, the market was closed. Just take a photo in this area since it is also photogenic place.

The Spice Market

The interior of Spice Market adopt the Egyptioan relics and atract me to go through into its labyrinth. It’s not as overwhelming as The Grand Bazaar and of course, they sell mostly the herbs and spices. You can get rugs and wallets here as well as the keychains and magnets. The hundreds centuries old Mısır Çarşısı / Egyptian Spice Bazaar, open seven days a week, is full of tourist from many countries due to its low price. It is the best place to buy oils, soap, dried fruits, spices, and Turkish delights as souvenirs.

Taksim Square

Located in Beyoğlu in the European part of Istanbul, Turkey, Taksim Square is a major tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. Taksim Square is also the location of the Monument of the Republic which was crafted by Pietro Canonica and inaugurated in 1928. The monument commemorates the 5th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, following the Turkish War of Independence.

Monument of Taksim

This is my favorite for shopping, eating delicious foods, taking street photograph, and sightseeing. There are many shops such as H&M, Sephora, YSL, Forever 21, and many more. I had my lunch at McD. You can also spot KFC and Burger King along the street. The price was fine and cheaper than in Indonesia. The sun light, the vintage-look shops, and the aroma of the fresh baked cakes are just perfect for me.

The Topkapi Palace

The palace was built in 15th-19th centuries by Ottoman Sultans. The palace complex consists of four main courtyards and many smaller buildings. Female members of the Sultan’s family lived in the harem and leading state officials, including the Grand Vizier, held meetings in the Imperial Council building. The palace complex has hundreds of rooms and chambers, but only the most important are accessible to the public today, including the Ottoman imperial harem and the treasury, called hazine where the Spoonmaker’s Diamond and Topkapi Dagger are on display. The museum collection also includes Ottoman clothing, weapons, armor, miniatures, religious relics, and illuminated manuscripts like the Topkapi manuscript. The complex is guarded by officials of the ministry as well as armed guards of the Turkish military. Unfortunately photography is prohibited in certain places so I can’t give too many photos of the interiors. You will see the hair of Mohammad; the beautiful antique clocks from the 15th century; the sword of David; and the rod of Moses.

Bosphorus Ferry Cruise

One of my favorite part of my travel journey. It’s my final destination of my Turkey travel journey. During 1 hour ferry ride, I enjoyed my last day in Istanbul by the beautiful sea view from Asia to Europe, passing the bridge which links both lands. There were many historical buildings and beautiful sightseeing. Although it was so hot and sunny, the ferry ride wrapped up my Turkey journey from the beginning till the end.

Warunk Upnormal

Warunk Upnormal Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello Indomie lovers!

Must try!

Indomie Goreng Telur Asin (23.5k)

Toppingnya pakai smoked beef. Lumayan nih buat supper.

Cireng Pandawa with Special Sauce (27.5k)

Apalagi ditambah saus pedes (mirip saus pempek), enak banget! Cobain ya!

Roti Bakar Nutella (21.5k)

Roti bakar di sini gede loh! Ada 2 lembar roti bakar yang dilapisi Nutella. Kalo baut 1 orang sih eneg ya menurut gw, pasnya buat disharing 2-3 orang.

Roti Bakar Coklat Keju (17.5k)

Avocado with Mango Pudding (30 k + 5k pudding)

Honestly, menurut gw biasa aja sih basonya, tapi ya lumayan sih buat ganjel perut kalo kamu ga terlalu lapar.

Overall, Warunk Upnormal menyediakan tempat nongkrong kekinian untuk anak muda. Untuk makanan, cukup variatif, tapi rasanya so-so. Dessertnya lumayan enak. Harganya agak pricey si tapi masih terjangkau kok. Selamat mencoba!

The People’s Cafe

The People's Cafe Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello food lovers! Street food has become so popular recently in social media and has been searched by many people (including the foodies and food hunters). One of the popular street foods that becomes viral is Ayam Geprek (crunched chicken). People may purchase of certain street foods due to many reasons : low price, flavourfull food, to experience local cuisines, etc. You can enjoy any kinds of street food sold by a hawker in a market or street, but some people may think the hygiene is low.

Ayam Geprek

Thanks to The People’s Cafe (TPC) or “Warung Orang-Orang”, a cafe form Ismaya group which brings street foods to the next level, you need  not to worry for its cleanliness. The People’s Cafe has launched new variety of contemporary global street food to be served and enjoyed with cozy ambience. You can now try these cuisines at all outlet of The People’s Cafe in Jakarta!

Street foods

Ayam Geprek Jumbo (Crunched Chicken Jumbo)

Starting with the most hype street food in town, TPC serves 6 varieties of Ayam Geprek with some sambal selection and cheese as the toppings :  Ayam Geprek Jumbo Keju, Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Limo, Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Ijo, Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Bawang, Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Ijo Special, and Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Merah Special. Many vendors sell wide creation of ayam geprek that can be found in almost every area around Jakarta, ranging from the original Ayam Geprek with sambal to the melted mozzarella cheese on top of the chicken.

Ayam Geprek Sambal Bawang

Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Merah Special

Ayam Geprek Sambal Ijo

Ayam Geprek Sambal Ijo Special

Ayam Geprek Sambal Limo

Ayam Geprek Jumbo Keju

The plus point of the ayam geprek from TPC is the big size of portion and generous amount of sambal! For me, the hotness level is still tolerable for some of them. My favorite is Ayam Geprek Jumbo Sambal Bawang since the shallot aroma is good, combined with the tasty and crunchy of the fried chicken. If you dare to try the spiciest menu, you can try Ayam Geprek Sambal ijo Special. Unlike most of sambal ijo, this one is very spicy and I cried when I ate the chili!

Chicken & Tofu Clear Soup

Besides the street foods, TPC also serves chicken & tofu clear soup as the healthier choice. It consists of chicken, mushroom, and tofu with clear chicken broth base. This warm soup is a perfect choice for your appetizer before having the spicy Ayam Geprek.

Nasi Mawut

Nasi Mawut is a local street food form Java. It is a rice combined with noodle and served with chicken as toppings (similar to Nasi Magelangan). TPC serves Nasi Mawut to the next level. The steamed rice is combined with black charcoal noodle and tempting sunny side egg. The black noodle is tasty, perfectly well paired with the egg. The meat between the rice and the noodle is also tasted good.

Hot China Chix

Chicken wings are also got hype in town. TPC serves spicy chicken wings instead of any other regular chicken wings. This Hot China Chix is delicious, with chili, leek, garlic, and also ginger sprinkles. The chicken wings are crunchy, tender, and juicy. Tasty, salty, spicy, and savoury.

Hot Texas Chix

This chicken wings are made with spicy sauce. The coriander, parsley, and paprika powder have made this Hot Texas Chix even more flavourfull and spicy. So far, I like this chicken wings even though I’m not a fan of chicken wings.

Twisted Nachos

This is my favorite snack from TPC. The beef and the nachos are perfectly combined with cheese sauce and the seasoning. Spicy, savoury, and meaty. Recommended!

Crispy Cireng (Tapioca flour)

Cireng is the most favorite fritters and now, you can have them in TPC! The texture is chewy, crunchy, and tasted good! Dip them with the chili dipping sauce to make it perfect!

Fried Tofu Basket

The soft tofu is battered and fried. Eat it with sweet soy sauce and chili. Get addicted with the soft texture of tofu and crispy from the outside.

Overall, The People’s Cafe offers you a variety of global street food with affordable price and brings the local street cuisines to the next level. The taste is good and serves with good hygiene. Try them now!

Eatboss, Kelapa Gading

Hello food lovers!

Gw suka tempatnya. Spacious, minialist, modern-decoration, dan wall painting-nya bagus. Tempatnya enak banget buat nongkrong bareng temen-temen kamu, apalagi ada menu sharingnya juga nih.

1st floor : Non-smoking area

2nd floor : Smoking area

2nd floor : Smoking area

Yakult Blue (15k)

Ini minuman favorite gw! Manis, asem, seger! Warna birunya juga cantik. Menurut gw agak kemanisan ya, jadi gw tambah air putih sedikit biar rasanya pas.

Vanilla Milk Shake (17.5k)

Rasanya creamy, milky, manis.  Pas buat minum sambil cemilan bareng temen.

Mojito Passion Lychee (40k)

The Long Boss Chili Dog (58.5k)

So big dan harganya terjangkau banget! Sosis, sayuran , dan saucenya banyak. Beneran besar sepanjang lengan! Kenyang banget!

The Big Boss Burger (99k)

Honey Toast : Black is sweet Oreo Choco (24.5k)

Karena gw suka dessert, pastinay gw order dessert dong. Gw cobain honey toastnya yg oreo.

Harga karaoke roomnya jug amurah loh! Nongkrong bareng temen di sini enak banget ya. Makanan oke, harga terjangkau, service cepat, dilayani layaknya boss.
Eat like a boss!

Sate Taichan Mpe Gading

Sate Taichan MPE Gading Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello food lovers! Sate Taichan is the infamous street food in Jakarta. It becomes viral through the social media : Instagram and Facebook.

The famous Sate Taichan was introduced by Sate Taichan located in Senayan, South Jakarta. The difference between Sate Taichan and any other Sate is there is no peanut sauce in Sate Taichan, but you eat the satay pieces with sambal. The hotness level is different from one place to another places.

I ordered the nearest sate taichan in Kelapa Gading for my supper. Randomly, I chose Sate Taichan Mpe Gading, located at Jl. Hibrida via Go-Food.

The satay meat is clean, white, and not too roasted. The appearance is quite tempting and you must eat them with the sambal sauce. The aroma is very good and tempting. The fried shallot makes the aroma even better.

Since I like spicy food, for me, the sambal is not so spicy. So, for you who does not like spicy, you can try this Sate Taichan. The chicken meat was tender, grilled aroma and taste, and quite tasty. I can taste the meaty and juiciness. Delicious! Perfect for snacking time at night.

Overall, the Sate Taichan is quite good for me and unique because instead of peanut sauce, it is served with sambal. The spicy and meaty taste from the satay and sauce combine perfectly in your mouth. The white meat is tender, a little bit salty, and well-blended with the seasonings. Then, I eat the satay with the sambal which is sour and spicy.

Judging from the appearance, Sate Taichan Mpe Gading is clean and not oily. I don’t like oily food, so I like this satay so far. However, they need to improve the sambal because it is not spicy for spicy-food lovers.

For the price, it is quite cheap as compared to any other Sate Taichan’s brands.

Happy eating!
