Shanghai Lao Lao, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Hello noodle lovers! I recommend you to try la mian from Shanghai Lao Lao, CWB, Hong Kong. It is located on the 1/F in a food place (like FX Sudirman, Indonesia) where all food tenants are collected. The place is opposite Kate Spade, H&M, and Ted Baker. I found this place outside my itinerary because I was very hungry at that time and wanted to eat la mian.

Telling the memory of good old days cooking by Lao Lao, who means grandma in north China. Shang Hai Lao Lao is a chained Shanghainese restaurant offering fresh ingredients and perfect cooking every dish at a reasonable price.

To express the warm old home feeling, a warmly welcomed by an open plan but different layouts as a traditional home setting. A perfect mix of contemporary and classic design elements of old Shanghai, a bevel edge glass window and black iron frame in French style. The place is dominated with gold, red, and black color. The decoration is look like an expensive Chinese restaurants. And yes, the price is quite expensive. However, it is worth to try! In addition, the hot tea is free!

You can browse the menu HERE

Wonton La Mian (HKD 53)

DSCF7540-01

My all time favorite la mian with wonton. The meat was pork and shrimp. The soup was brothy, fatty, and porky. The la mian was samll, thin, but chewy. Super yummy!

Minced Pork La Mian (HKD 52)

DSCF7549-01.jpeg

It is a dried la mian with separated chicken herbal soup. The minced pork was so delicious! Umami taste, sweet, salty, and spicy. The soup consisted of chicken wings cooked with herbal spices. I think you will be addicted if you eat this!

Yang Chow Fried Rice (HKD 62)

DSCF7551-01.jpeg

The fried rice consisted of scrambled egg, spring onion, boiled shrimp, and vegetables. The wok sensation was there. The taste was not as tasty as minced pork la mian, but once you paired it with mapo tofu you will get addicted.

Mapo Tofu (HKD 57)

DSCF7557-01.jpeg

Don’t get surprise if the a la carte dishes are more expensive than la mian. This mapo tofu is suitable for 3-4 persons. Eat it with hot steamed rice. This is very tasty. The tofu was so soft. The bean paste (aka tauco) is also good and salty. Spicy, porky, and umami.; All in balance. Recommended!

Overall, I was so satisfies having my lunch in Shanghai Lao Lao. All of the foods we ordered were delicious! Even I add steamed rice and mapo tofu after eating one portion of wonton la mian. I’m so addicted until now! Although it’s pricey, you must try this at least once! I still remember those tasty foods on my tongue!

Stay tune for my travel journey in Hong Kong.

Bear of Color Shop, Hong Kong

Hello! I found a small coffee shop at the opposite of Dim Sum Icon, on the 3/F of The ONE Mall, Hong Kong. Maybe not many people have noticed this place since I have not found any blog review about this place. It s a hidden gem in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

2018_0331_16241800-01.jpeg

I did not try any drinks or cakes because I had my snack time in Dim Sum Icon. I just took some pictures because all stuffs in this place are cute and adorable. I bought the small bears and a tiny bear with my name on its T-shirt.

DSCF7415

DSCF7420.JPG

DSCF7424.JPG

You may buy the stationery and all those good stuffs there. The bears are so fluffly and cute. I would lose myself to buy the big bear if I did not remember that my luggage is not big. You can also try the cakes there or you can buy flower package containing the bears for your loved ones.j

Just enjoy the photos!

Dim Sum Icon, Hong Kong – Garfield

Hello food lovers! When I visited Hong Kong, I purposely went to Dim Sun Icon. This cafe is located on the 3/F of The ONE Mall, Tsim Sha Tsui, Nathan Road. This mall is quite instagramable because there are many manga exhibition and cartoon characters stores in this mall. Oh yeah, opposite to Dim Sum Icon, there is also a very cute cafe full of 365-days-bears.

IMG_20180403_220930_338.jpg

DSCF7413-1.jpg

Dim Sum Icon does frequently change their cafe’s theme. The most popular theme was Gudetama. When I visited there in 2016, the theme has changed into another theme (which was not cute at all). So, I decided to re-visit Dim Sum Icon in 2018.

DSCF7466.JPG

Lucky me, I found Garfield for the theme! Garfield is the fat cat cartoon character since I was a kid. The cafe is small, but so cute! All area in this cafe is dominated by Garfield’s picture (yellow-orange colour). Even the table set and book menu are dominated by Garfield’s pictures. The foods are quite expensive since they have to pay the license’s of the theme. If you do not buy any kind of drink, each person will be charged HKD 10+ for hot tea. You may select what kind of tea do you prefer, though.

DSCF7414-1.jpg

DSCF7464-1.jpg

I visited Dim Sum Icon in the afternoon, around 4 PM (HKT). So, I did not hungry, just want some snack for afternoon tea. I think you will confuse of which menu you would like to order because all of the foods are adorable! Here is the menu :

What I Ordered

DSCF7462-1.jpg

Hakau (HKD 49)

2018_0331_16432400-01

It consists of 3 pcs of hakau. Each of them has different character’s face : Garfield, Odie, and Jon (the owner of Garfield).  The hakau is good and at first,

Glutinous Rice with Chicken and Egg (HKD 49)

2018_0331_16384200-01

It is called as lemper in Indonesia. Most people in Hong Kong will eat glutinous rice instead of steamed rice. This menu consists of 2 layers of glutinous rice and shredded chicken in between. The top part is like an omelette, but steamed. The happy face of Garfield is cute! The taste is okay, not too salty.

Fried Buns with Salted Egg (HKD 45)

2018_0331_16364700-01

Consist of 2 pcs, the porcupine fried buns are so cute! The outer part is so crispy (you can hear the creak sound when you bite it). The inner part is softer, filled with melted salted egg. However, the taste is not salty, but sweet, creamy, butter, and eggy. I think it is considered as sweet fried buns, not the savory buns.

Fried Wonton (HKD 39)

2018_0331_16390600-01

The fried wonton is cute with those eyes. I think the eyes are made from candy because the texture is hard. The wonton tasted good, but not addicted.

Mango Panna Cotta (HKD 39)

2018_0331_16350200-01

It looks cute with the head and tails of Garfield. It seems like the body is the panna cotta. I think that this is the best among the other foods I ordered. The panna cotta is smooth, soft, and has both mango aroma and taste (not artificial, maybe they use real mangoes). I like it! It looks small, but you will get full if you eat them all. The taste is not too sweet, which is good.

20180331_181145-01

Overall, the foods are good, but pricey. I think it’s fine to try the foods here because Dim Sum Inc offers you a new look of eating dim sum. There are lots of dim sum places in Hong Kong, but this is the most unique place to spend since every 1-2x per year they change the theme. you will do re-visit again because the theme has changed.

How to Elevate Your Chinese-look-alike Dress into The Next Level

Hello fashionista! I went to Hong Kong for my short holiday and I wanna share you about my outfit look. Since Hong Kong is a country in Asia, it is suitable to wear cheongsam, Chinese printed top/dress. However, too Chinese is so old-fashioned. I will give you some tips to make your Chinese-look outfit into more fashionable. Honestly, I am not a fashionista, but I do like mix & match my clothes to make them look new.

DSCF7819.JPG

Lensed by Fujifilm XA-2 (no edit, no filter, it’s a raw shoot)

I will give you 2 looks with 2 different Chinese outfit. I hope you like them =)

My first look is come form Stand For Women (IG: @standforwomen) Xiu Top. I love the top ♥ because this top is so pretty, silky, comfy to wear on, and light! The fabric is good, silky-like, and the crane-printed top will make you look a Chinese princess. I wear this top with Escarpat pants to make look stylish, but not too much. You can wear pump shoes, sneakers, or wedges. For me, I choose to wear canvas shoes so that I can strolling around Hong Kong in ease. Choose a pair of shoes that are fit and comfy for you while you are traveling.

My second look comes from Minimal Store (IG: @minimalstores) : Pearl Rose Dress. This dress is so beautiful, elegant, and feminine, suitable for evening party. I want to make this pretty dress into something different. If you just wear the dress, somehow it looks like a modern mini cheongsam. To make it into fashionable look, you can wear beret hat (a hat for winter, usually made from wool). I wear lace outer from Miss Sixty to make it look chic and fresh. Wearing elegant dress is sometimes too boring, but you can wear a hat and an outer to make the dress looks cute. I also wear shoes from Marks&Spencer Check out my post on my Instagram @jessica_sisy

Hokkaido Dairy Farm, Hong Kong

Hello food lovers! My travel journey started in this small cute cafe, namely Hokkaido Dairy Farm. I spotted this cafe when my taxi passed after I landed in Hong Kong =p Since it is near from my hotel in Mong Kok, thus I did search some search about this cafe.

DSCF6953-01.jpeg DSCF6954-01.jpeg

DSCF6965-01.jpeg

DSCF6966-01.jpeg

DSCF6985-01.jpeg

The place is small, but cute. The decoration is simple, dominated by blue-white colour, and it makes you feel like you are eating in a small barn. From the outside, the cafe is just like a small blue house, which is my favorite colour. It is beside The PHO restaurant.

DSCF6963-01.jpeg

DSCF6964-01.jpeg

FOOD SET MENU

Japanese curry rice is their signature dish. There are also breakfast set menu and honey toast. If you go for breakfast, you can try their breakfast menu. Although I came here for dinner, mostly the customers ordered their big breakfast menu and honey toast. As for me, I ordered Beef Bowl Rice, Fish Katsu Curry, and Hamburg Steak Curry. All of these dishes are set with drink (choose between lemon tea/juice/milk tea).

DSCF6982-01.jpeg

DSCF6981-01.jpeg

Fish Katsu Curry (HKD 68, include drink)

DSCF6986-01.jpeg

I like the deep-fried fish (red snapper fish) since it does not have fishy smell. As for the rice, this is a Japanese rice. Chewy texture, me love it! However, I don’t like the curry’s taste since it is different with the authentic Japanese curry’s taste.

Hamburg Steak Curry (HKD 69, include drink)

DSCF6976-01.jpeg

The steak is good, tender, and beefy. The meat is also good if you add the curry. I think the taste of curry is more suitable with the beef meat rather than fish or chicken.

Beef Bowl Rice (HKD 58, include drink)

DSCF6978-01.jpeg

This one is most likely Japanese Beef Bowl Rice from Y*s*****a in Jakarta. However, the taste is not as good as the one in Jakarta. The beef has more fat rather than meat. Since I hate fat, I don’t like this beef bowl rice =(

Moreover, you can try this cafe since you will never get to try it in Indonesia. All of stores started with “Hokkaido” always sell cheese tart and desserts. In Hong Kong, you can try the breakfast menu, honey toast, and curry rice.

Stay tune for my travel journey in Hong Kong.

Line Store, Hong Kong

Hello all! I visited Hong Kong for my first holiday in 2018. You can see my last post in Hong Kong HERE.

Photo with Choco

One of my destinations was LINE Store Hong Kong in Hysan Place, Causeway Bay. The store is located on the 2nd floor. You will notice when you see a big statue of Brown. Actually, there are 2 LINE stores in Hong Kong: Hysan Place and Langham Place (smaller than Hysan Place). I have been to Hysan Place twice (in 2016 and 2018). I could see that the place has changed since there was Cony’ statue back in 2016, while the statue is replaced by Choco.

Me with Brown

Choco is the younger sister of brown. Choco has a pair of small, black eyes, two tiny ears and a short tail like her brother Brown. but has a big, peach-coloured bow on top of her head and her skin colour is lighter than Brown. Usually, she wears different types of clothes everyday, although she usually wears a peach-coloured dress paired with a yellow bag with a pink heart-shaped button. Unlike Brown, Choco has a passion of being a gossip girl and she is more sociable. Moreover, she is media-savvy and loves to show off by sharing her own selfies. For me, Choco is so cute with that big bow on her head.

I visited the LINE Store in Hysan Place which has 2 stores: Stationery and Apparel. The place is dominated by brown and yellow color for the Stationery store. Many cute stuffs there. Starting with the pen, dolls, Notebook’s case, towel, sweater, and many more. I just bough a small wallet and a Notebook’s case. There was a promotion if you buy certain products. The price starts from HKD 30 if I’m not mistaken.

As for the apparel Store, the place is dominated by pink color. It is Choco’s favorite colour! The clothes sold consists of sweater, towels, caps, and dog’s bag. Actually I want to buy a cute sweater there, but I think I will not wear it in Indonesia. So, I bought this red cap for me.

My Travel Outfit

Hello Fashionista! I want to share my travel outfit during my travel trip to Hong Kong and Malaysia. Sometimes, we choose to wear simple outfit rather than stylish outfit. We think that bringing a few pieces of clothes would burden our luggage. Here, I share my fashion tips for travelers.

17-02-01-18-29-26-779_deco.jpg

Choosing a right outfit with your destination

It’s important to check the weather of your destination. Since I like girly-feminine outfit, I choose floral skirt and sabrina top for going sightseeing around the town. Fitting the clothes with the destination theme has always been on my to-do list. When I went to Hello Kitty Cafe, I wore chinese-ethnic simple dress because it was a chinese restaurant.

16-05-14-23-21-44-127_deco.jpg16-05-13-22-18-48-419_deco.jpg

16-09-18-17-19-56-375_deco.jpg

Dress: Obliviu | Bag: Coach | Scarf: H&M

Jeans and Jegging

These 2 things are your saviour when you have no idea what to wear on. I prefer wearing jegging since I feel that jeans are to heavy to be brought and I don’t get used to wear them. Jegging is lighter and I like mix-matching my T-shirt, sweater, and even my pretty top with jegging. You can use black jeans or black jegging for formal occasion as well. I also like to wear boyish outfit  with a touch of elegant beauty when I had my lunch in a modern-style cafe in Malaysia.

20170203_144852-01

Hat: Rusty | White top: Zara | Jacket: Zara |Bag: Longchamp | Jegging: Uniqlo

Playing with The Right Accessories

If you are a simple person, than just go with the T-shirt and short pants! I suggest to wear the right accessories to level-up your look. Sunglasses, hats, statement necklace, scarf, or even the statement shoes (but the comfy one) to complete your look. It’s easy to ruin your whole look by choosing the wrong accessories.

16-09-19-14-10-12-004_deco.jpg

Sunglasses: Chanel | Loose Shirt: H&M | Skirt: Stradivarius | Bag: Coach | Sandals: Hong Kong Store

Sandals are your best friend

Walking around the city from one to another places will soak your feet. Wearing shoes is not wrong (better to wear socks or short stocking to protect your feet), but it’s important to let your feet ‘breathe’. Otherwise, you will hurt them.

17-02-02-19-40-16-473_deco.jpg

Loose Shirt: H&M | Bag: Longchamp | Sandals: Hong Kong Store

Monochrome

Here’s my secret: when  in doubt, wear monochrome. Wearing black or white will never go wrong. Instead, you will look elegant, edgy, and cool.

I hope all of you will get a super cool look during your holiday. Be yourself and be unique ♥

Gudetama Cafe by Izumi Curry Hong Kong – Cuteness Overload ♥

Hello all Foodies! This time I will share about my dining experience in Hong Kong. One of the famous cafe there was Gudetama Cafe by Izumi Curry. I ♥ Gudetama. So, I came far away from Jakarta – Mong Kok – Kwun Tong to meet the famous Japanese lazy egg mascot! After transforming into cute dim  sum at Dim Sum Icon, Gudetama finds its way to transform into Japanese udon and curry rice.

PhotoGrid_1464614857806-01.jpeg

Summary of my culinary diary in Gudetama Cafe Hong Kong

The craze over Gudetama continues in Hong Kong as Izumi Curry located at The One Shopping Mall on the Basement floor. If you are not aware, Gudetama is one of sanrio character that was created in year 2013. Think Gudetama table-top, chairs in the shape of egg shells, Gudetama cushions, mugs and food. Amazing!!!

Gudetama Cafe by Izumi Curry

Cute Chairs

20160513_130656-01.jpeg

The interior

The place was fully decorated with Gudetama-theme and even the chairs are in egg shape. There are plushies at the seating area where customers could grab it and took photos with it. There is also Gudetama merchandise store next to the café that sells the miniatures of Gudetama and many more. We looked through the limited menu list and decided on our order.

20160513_130418-01.jpeg

We decided on 3 sets which costs us additional HKD18 ~S$3.60 that comes with a drink (apple juice or orange juice) each. In case you are wondering the waiting time, the foods were served within 15 minutes, since it was not crowded and only 2 tables filled.

20160513_131026-01.jpeg

On The Table

The foods are coming! The frowning lazy-sleepy face of Gudetama was present in almost every dish in the form of egg, be it hard boiled, half-boiled or scrambled. All of the set menus were so cute ♥♥♥

Screenshot_20170118-212027-01.jpeg

Special Omelette Rice with Bacons and Sausage (HKD 99)

Looking from the appearance, the look of Gudetama was so irritating and too cute to be eaten! The stylist was so good and very photogenic. The aroma of curry was quiet good. However, the taste was so-so. Good looking, but not good to eat. The yellow rice wrapped in a pink, soft and non-crispy bacon, covered by the sunny egg. The sausage was standard, quiet crispy on the surface. The bacon was bad, tasteless. The curry was quiet good.

20160513_130936-02.jpeg

Pork Fillet with Omelette Curry Rice (HKD 119)

The pork fillet was quiet crispy and dry. The rice was tasteless, but you can eat it with the tasty curry gravy. Not too bad, although it was not worth with the price.

20160513_130817-01.jpeg

Hamburger Steak and Cheese Curry Rice (HKD 129)

Our favourite was the Hamburger Steak And Cheese Curry Rice with an irritated-looking Gudetama lying on top of the minced beef. The beef was tender and the cheese was yummy! Not too creamy, but blended well with the beef and curry rice.

The disappointing point was the juice was not fresh. We ordered the set menu with orange and apple juice. We thought they were fresh juice, but instead, they were instant juice! For me, the foods were overprice with low quality of ingredient, especially for the juice. Perhaps, we could get more of fresh juice and fresh ingredients.

Overall, the cafe had awesome interior design, especially the Gudetama stuffs. Really enjoying my lunch time there with my family. If you are a Gudetama lover, you wouldn’t want to miss this. I would not suggest you to have a delicious and affordable meal in this place.
