Enak! Cabai merahnya ga pedes loh! Agak manis gitu, dibuang bijinya dan direbus dulu supaya ga pedas. Recommended!

Chinatown Bandung

2017_0812_17591400-01.jpeg

Hello travelers! Have you heard about Chinatown Bandung? It is recently opened on 4th August 2017. Located at Jalan Klenteng No. 41 (near Waringin School), Chinatown has been popular as the hype destination in Bandung. On 17th of August, the Chinatown is officially opened by the local government.

DSCF2042.JPG

The Chinatown is easily spotted from the Chinese design of the building. You must pay for the entrance fee (information is below) and get 1 small bottle of mineral water. You can take a picture on the paintings before you enter the building.

DSCF2043.JPG

The Entrance Door

When you enter the door, you can directly turn left to get in a small room with lots of oriental stuffs and a history of the Chinatown in Bandung. The ornament and design are very good and unique as if you are traveling in the ancient Chinese era.

The Old Chinese-style ornaments

Like any other chinatown places, there are many colourful lanterns. You can taking pictures in the afternoon or in the evening when all the lanterns are turned on. Very beautiful!

You must go up to a house to take some OOTD photos or just taking pictures of the beautiful view. There is also a red bridge at the center of the building which is so Chinese-style and instagram-able.

There are many souvenir stores at the right side of the building. Starting from Batik, kitchen tools, souvenirs, and also snacks. All of the stores are well-designed like in old Chinese era. You can also taking pictures at the ‘living room’ with jadoel-style home decor.

The foods are mostly Indonesian street food, such as Es Dung Dung, Es Alpukat, Soto Ayam, Gado-Gado, Ketoprak, Nasi Goreng, Batagor, Tahu Baso, Baso Kuah, and fresh fruits. The price is ranged from IDR 10.000 to IDR 50.000/dish. I like the Baso Goreng and Nasi Lengko (traditional food from Cirebon).

For the Soto Lamongan, it is too salty. Actually, the seasoning is quite tasty, soupy, long-boiled, and meaty. However, since it is too salty, I could not enjoy the soto 😦

The Tahu Baso is more likely siomay in Jakarta. The taste is so-so and the peanut sauce is too spicy. If you cannot eat spicy food, better to avoid this.

Pablo Cheese Cheese Ice Cream VS Ezo Cheesecake Camembert Ice Cream

Pablo Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello dessert lovers! It’s been a while since I wrote my article about “Hokkaido Baked VS Hokkaido Baby Cheese Tarts”. If you have not read that article, you can directly click HERE. Hope you guys could decide which one is the best ♥

Now, I’m eager to compare the popular cheese ice cream between Pablo’s and Ezo’s.

2017_0424_16511700-01.jpeg

PABLO CHEESE TART’S ICE CREAM

Coming from Osaka, Japan, Pablo Cheese Tart has gained its popularity in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippine, Singapore, and Indonesia. In Japan, the Pablo’s store in Shinsaibashi is always full of crowd from morning till noon. Good news for all people in Jakarta! You can taste the famous cheese tarts in 3 stores: Gandaria City Mall,  Neo Soho Mall, and Kelapa Gading Mall (the newest store). I hope Pablo would open a store in Malaysia, since I often go to that country.

Pablo has many menus besides the cheese tart, such as Frute and Soft Cheese Ice Cream. For the ice cream, they have 2 flavors : Cheese and Matcha Cheese. I have tried both of them. The cheese flavor is quite good, milky, creamy, cheesy, and bold. The texture of the ice cream is soft, but thick. When you eat it, you can taste the boldness of the cheese, creamy, and a little bit sour left behind (aftertaste). The ice cream is also not easy to melt.

For the matcha ice cream, the cheese flavor is more dominant than the matcha taste. The matcha tasted a little bit astringent and bold. So, it  can reduce the creaminess of the cheese. I like this flavor more than the original cheese flavor because I can eat one portion without feeling too much. The matcha and cheese flavor combined perfectly.

Screenshot_20170629-211621-01.jpeg

Screenshot_20170629-211726-01.jpeg

EZO CHEESECAKE’S ICE CREAM

Ezo Cheesecake is come form Hokkaido, Japan. The small cheese cakes are filled with the cheese bomb on the bottom. There are many flavors for the cheese tarts, such as lemon yuzu, Nutella, Ovomaltine, Espresso, Matcha, etc. Ezo uses the ingredients imported form Japan for the baked goods. MAde form natural ingredient and baked fresh daily to bring out the best flavour available on the store shelves everyday. Now, you can visit Ezo’s store in PIK, Taman Anggrek Mall, and Kelapa Gading Mall, Jakarta.

Different from Pablo, Ezo Cheesecake has only one flavor of the ice cream. The Camembert ice cream from Ezo Cheesecake! Most of you have tried this one, I guess. The cheese tasted like immatured camembert cheese. The creamy and sour taste are left in your mouth. The ice cream is similar with Pablo’s. In terms of texture, the ice cream is also soft and thick. The taste are bold, milky, and creamy. The ice cream is filled inside the cone from top to the bottom. In affordable price, you can enjoy this tasty ice cream.

Screenshot_20170419-230601-01.jpeg

PABLO CHEESE TART’S VS EZO CHEESECAKE’S ICE CREAM

1. The Taste

We are comparing the original cheese ice cream from Pablo and the Camembert ice cream from Ezo. In terms of taste, both of them tasted like real cheese. For Ezo’s, it is more specific, which is the Camembert Cheese. As for Pablo’s, judging from the smell and taste, it is more likely Cheddar type (in my opinion).  Actually, both of the are really good and have similar taste.

Winner: It is a tie.

2. The Flavor variants

In terms of flavor variants, Pablo Cheese Tart wins over Ezo Cheese Cake. Pablo has original and matcha, while Ezo has only one flavor: the original flavor.

Winner: Pablo’s ice cream

3 The Price

As for the price, Ezo’s ice cream (IDR 20k) is cheaper than Pablo’s (IDR 35k). It’s almost half of the Pablo’s price.

Winner: Ezo’s ice cream

CONCLUSION: BOTH ARE GOOD! IT’S A TIE!

Overall, both of them are very good. The cheese ice cream is unique and made form fresh ingredients. However, I prefer to have Ezo’s Camembert ice cream since  it tasted lighter and could easily finish one portion. If you want to save more money, than choose Ezo’s ice cream. If you don’t care about the price of the food, then you can go for Pablo’s and try both flavors. It depends on your own perception. For economical reason, you can always choose the cheapier one with high quality.

Tim Ho Wan, Mid Valley, Malaysia

2017_0204_13570300-01.jpeg

Tim Ho Wan is a popular chinese restaurant, specialty in dim sum. Tim Ho Wan has been so famous in Hong Kong, Singapore, and also Indonesia. Originally came from Hong Kong, Tim Ho Wan now has 45 locations around Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the United States.

DSCF2285.JPG

DSCF2298.JPG

I visited the one in Malaysia, more precisely at Mid Valley Mall. The restaurant is located at the outside of the mall, across the Starbucks. It is a two-story building, but customers are usually sit on the 1st floor. The place is spacious, chinese-type design, and minimalist. The ambience is good and suitbale for breakfast to lunch.

DSCF2254.JPG

The menu is slightly different with the one in Indonesia. They have pork la mian menus and some other new menus. I only try the pork la mian for the new menu. The dim sum menu is the same with the one in Indonesia.

Pork La Mian

Dim Sum and Rice

We tried the hakao, veggie hakao, siomay, charsiu pao, chong fan, and the infamous pork buns. I love the pork buns. The buns are crispy and sweet on the crust, but very soft in the inside.

DSCF2226.JPG

The steamed rice with pork sausage and mushroom is also famous. Eat it with the sweet salty sauce, special from Tim Ho Wan. The aroma is so tempting and the taste is so delicious!

The wonton noodle is also good! The wonton is yummy, full of shrimp, and tasted good. The noodle is thin, rope-like shape, and actually a Hong Kong-style noodle. this is what I like the most!

DSCF2224.JPG

Actually, I only like the pork buns and the wonton noodle. For the rest of the dim sums, I think they are so-so, like any other dim sums from other Chinese restaurants. Overall, the place is good, the foods are quiet tasty, although they are pricey for just dim sums. If you don’t know where to eat in Mid Valley, you can just go to Tim Ho Wan for their dim sums!

Tokyo Secret Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

DSCF9013.JPG

Tokyo Secret is selling Japanese Hanjuku Cheese Tart (or Half Baked Cheese Tart) made by high quality cheese imported directly from Japan. The company is originated from Hong Kong. In Indonesia, Tokyo Secret has not yet opened. Hopefully, they will open their outlet in Jakarta ♥

I visited the biggest outlet in 1 Utama Mall, Damansara. The outlet in 1 Utama sells only Hanjuku Cheese Tarts! There are 4 Flavors available :-Hanjuku Cheese Tart (Original flavor), Matcha Hanjuku Cheese Tart, Hazelnut Hanjuku Cheese Tart & Coffee Hanjuku Cheese Tart. Actually, there is the Strawberry flavor in another outlet.

DSCF7297.JPG

The store is quiet big and has some chairs besides the cashier and kitchen. The concept is a minimalist cafe. After you buy the tarts, you can directly consume them whilst they are still warm!

20170602_155946.jpg

Freshly baked and hot from oven! There are 4 ways to enjoy the unique taste of cheese tart:
1. Consume right after it was baked under room temperature!
2. Refrigerated it, and it will taste like you are eating cheese cake
3. Freeze it in freezer, and it will turn into a tasty ice-cream
4. Lastly, reheating it with a toasters will once again, bringing back the crunchy crust and melting cheesy texture.
Cheese Tart
DSCF7301.JPG
For me, the crust s so crispy, buttery, and combined perfectly with the creamy cheese inside the tart. The custard tasted milky, creamy, sweet, and rich of cheese! So tasty!
Chocolate Hazelnut Tart
IMG_20170429_221256_518
The chocolate cream cheese filling is flowing down slowly too after one bite. Those crunchy toasted hazelnut bits that sprinkle on top goes very well with the creamy chocolate cheese filling. The chocolate crust is crispy just like the original flavor. The hazelnut is more pricey than the Original Cheese Tart, but i love it! Really love both hazelnut’s aroma and the taste as well.
Matcha Cheese Tart
DSCF9015.JPG
This one is unique! The taste is like the authentic matcha powder from Japan. Inside the cream cheese, there is red bean and mochi. So, when you eat it, you will taste the creamy of the cheese cream, the sweet taste of red bean (azuki), and the fluffy texture of the mochi. Perfect!
20170602_155613e.jpg
Overall, Tokyo Secret offers you a high quality cheese tarts to the next level. The tart is bigger than the competitors and the price is more expensive. Pricey, but worth it! This is my most favorite cheese tart ♥

Mc Donald’s Ice Cream Cendol

McDonald's Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello foodies! During this festive season, Mc Donald’s Malaysia has launched a new flavor for ice cream, which is CENDOL! Such a unique flavor for an ice cream, right?

Cendol is a traditional dessert from Southeast Asia : such as : Indonesia, Malaysia,  Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia,East Timor, Vietnam, Thailand and Burma. Cendol is a snack made from rice flour and other ingredients, formed by filters, then mixed with palm sugar and coconut milk (for beverage) (Wikipedia, 2017). The cendol is consumed with coconut milk and palm sugar syrup with ice crystals. The taste is sweet, creamy, and addicted!

For me, Mc Donald’s is so creative to launch this new flavor during festive. You can eat the ice cream for break fasting for your dessert. The taste is dominated by the palm sugar taste and coconut milk’s mouthfeel. The green-colored cone is actually referred to the cendol.

Overall, the taste is not as good as I thought before. Perhaps, more likely you eat the coconut soup of the cendol. However, I appreciate the idea of combining traditional food with western-style dessert. Let’s try the ice cream!

Uncle Tetsu, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Uncle Tetsu’s  cheese cake is very soft, sweet, and savoury; a perfect combination of cream cheese and high quality butter. Besides the cheese cakes, there are cheese tarts and madelines (new).

In Malaysia, there are 2 outlets : Pavilion Mall and Mid Valley Mall. I went to the one in Pavilion Mall, located on the Basement Floor. The store is small, near the escalator. I bought the cheese tarts and madelines since I had tried the cheese cake in Jakarta.

The cheese tart is good! The tart is crunchy, very light, soft, and less sweet. The cream cheese is also less sweet and delicious! Slightly salty, savoury, but creamy and buttery tasted. You can eat more than one cheese tarts and never get too much.

The madelines are actually muffins. There are 4 flavors: Early Grey, Matcha, Chocolate, and Honey. Actually, the texture is not as fluffy as I thought. It’s full, un-fluffy (bantat), and less sweet. Seems like eating brownies. I don’t like the madelines, except the chocolate flavor.

Overall, two thumbs up for Uncle Tetsu! The cheese cake is very good, as well as the cheese tarts. For the madelines, they need some improvement in the dough and the flavor taste. Heading up to Uncle Tetsu now!
